A BUXOM BRIDE’S GUIDE TO FINDING THE PERFECT GOWN!

You are newly engaged, Buxom and beautiful and are about to begin shopping for the most important dress of your life! Why is that so scary? It is nerve wracking for a bride of any size to start the gown buying process. Even more so if you are not a perfect size 10 like most gown samples at your local bridal salon.

Here are a few helpful tips that should make your gown purchasing experience just a little better.

Be ready, in the mood and confident.

Before scheduling any appointments, interview the salon. Ask if they have at least 15 dresses in their bridal boutique that you can try on. Be aware, bridal sizing is not the same as your normal dress size. Your bridal size will fall two full sizes higher than your dresses at home. If you are normally a size 20 you will ask the store if they have plenty of size 24 for you to try on. If the answer is no, move along. It is a waste of your time and will not be the experience you deserve. If no salons in your area seem to have what you need, consider a Bridal Salon that specializes in full figured gowns. That way you know there will be plenty to try on.

Know what you are looking for.

It is always a good idea to do a little research before your appointments. Browse the internet and designer websites to see what you are most attracted to. Bring pictures. There are no hard and fast rules for a bride of any size. What is most important is your body shape. If you are an hourglass figure you can wear anything you want whether you are a size 2 or 22. If you are a pear shape you may really want to consider an A-line or gown with a natural waist. Your bridal consultant will be there to help you but it is always best to have a general idea of what shapes and silhouettes look best on you.

Don’t be afraid of color and texture!

Just because you are plus size doesn’t mean you can’t wear a flashy dress! Consider wearing a beautiful blush or champagne color. Or a gown covered in sparkles! Any color except for white will be slimming on your wedding day. Some playful ruffles or soft layers of tulle or organza are among my favorites for my Buxom Brides. Most importantly go for something that allows your beautiful personality shine like the star that you are on your wedding day.

If your weight seems to fluctuate, consider a corset gown.

Spare yourself the worry of costly alterations or even worse the need to purchase a new gown. Are you like the majority of women who seem to gain and lose weight throughout the year. Stress is always a factor, but this is one way to alleviate just a little bit of it! If you gain or lose a few pounds your dress will still fit beautifully.

Order the size the size chart recommends.

This is probably the best piece of advice I could offer any bride regardless of size. Please do not order a gown that does not fit you now. I have seen too many brides in tears when their beautiful dress comes in and they cannot zip it up. It is hard on everyone, even your bridal consultant.
